-
- One answer - they don't want to offer a quality low-end machine in the same
- price range as an A1200 class computer.
-
- : If I wanted a new case for my DELL486 full TOWER machine. I could
- : easily pick one up for $30 but for my A500 that option is too expensive.
-
- Economies of scale if everyone was buying A500s a tower case for the A500
- would cost $30.
-
- : If cost is that much of a problem for AT here is one suggestion.
- : They could produce the same mid-tower case for all Amigas changing the label
- : sticker/plague to show the type of machine (motherboard that is in case).
-
- Or they could offer a low-end machine, a mid-range machine and a high-end
- machine. Both the mid-range and high-end machine could use standard form
- factor motherboards and then AmiT could use any PC compatible case for them
- they choose. The low-end machine in the single case solution could have the
- same size motherboard as the hopefully new LapTop Amigas! This could also
- reduce their production costs on that MB type. The single case Amiga can be
- seen as a positive making the Amiga more portable and take up less room for
- people with cramped quarters. With advertising it doesn't have to be a
- liabililty in fact it can be a feature.
-
- "Why have a giant case taking up all that space in your appartment the Amiga
- 1300netsurfer is not only an inensive way to access the web and write all
- those school reports but takes a minimal of space for that cramped dorm
- room."
-
- : This would created a new clean proffesional identity for the Amiga. In the past
- : non amiga owners I know confuse the 3000 models for PC's while they reconized
- : a picture of an A500 or an old bulky A2000 as Amiga machines. While you can
- : reconize even the newest MAC from a mile away or an IBM brand PC.
-
- The mid-rang and the high-end need cases as you suggest that look different
- than everyone else. Hey let's offer different color case colors by using
- standard form factor MB we should be able to do this easily.
